FAQs

Here are answers to questions that people frequently ask about violin lessons.

I recommend that you visit the Violin Shop of Tampa on 4009 Henderson Blvd to get started. (http://www.info@violinshoptampa.com). They will advise you on the options for renting or buying a violin and the range of prices. They carry violins in all major sizes and quality.
The more you practice the better! I recommend that young beginners start practicing 30 minutes per day. More advanced students should plan on practicing for longer times.
I start teaching children at the age of three and older. You are never too old to learn!
To study classical violin, reading music is necessary. For the first three books of the Suzuki method I start the student without reading music. This is excellent for ear training and does not divide the concentration between learning to read music and gaining comfort and connection to your instrument. I teach music reading as a side skill for beginners apart from the violin. After Suzuki Book Three, I transition the students into learning to play with music because by this time the fundamentals are firmly established.
You will transition to learning how to play chamber music, starting first with violin duets, trios, and quartets.
Yes, but you will need to manage your time well and not skip your violin practice time each day.
Yes! Also, music feeds your soul and is one of the things that makes your lessons so rewarding!
Your violin playing will give you a means to express who you are and how you feel through music. It also enables you to take part in playing music with others.
